Velyache sukhe ( silver belly fish - dry preparation):

Velyo or silver belly are one of the tastiest fish readily available in goan markets. Silver belly fish are good for health for children as well as old-aged people. There is large consumption of this fish in goa. Its also very light in nature which gives no harm to our body. Goans prepare curries, sukhe and also fry them. Today I shall show you the dry preparation of this fish which is called as sukhe in goan language.

Ingredients:
Cleaned silver belly fish-1 cup
Scraped coconut-1 cup
Chopped onions-1 medium
Haldi powder-1 tsp
Red chilli powder-2 tsp
Green chillies-2-3 long slitted
Kokum -4-5
Crushed peppercorns-4-5
Salt as per taste
Water - a fistful.

Method:
First clean fish and apply salt and keep aside for 10 mins.

In a cooking vessel add scraped coconut, chopped onions, green chillies, haldi, red chilli powder, crushed peppercorns, salt and mix everything nicely with your hand.

Then wash salted fish twice and add in above and mix. Add kokum, and a fistful of water and keep the vessel on gas.

Cook till fish turns color and water is absorbed and your sukhe is dry. Off the gas and serve with rice and Sol kadi.
