Sabudana appam
Sabudana appam ( sabudana wada prepared with less oil):
Sabudana wada is one of the favorite snacks consumed by maximum people during fasting periods. Its loved by all.
Sabudana are white pretty globules made from the milk extracted from the roots of the topiocca plant/cassava plant. Since it's a non grain food, its allowed to be consumed during fasting periods. Many people all over the world has made sabudana a part of their staple food. Sabudana has a rich source of starch in the form of carbohydrates which gives instant engery in the fasting periods. Its also quick to digest and healthy to our gut.
In Maharashtra side, sabudana is consumed mostly in the form of khichdi which is prepared using potatoes, peanuts, jeera etc. Sabudana wada is also loved by many people but due to its preparation by normal deep frying method, it consumes lot of oil thus making it unhealthy. To preserve its good properties, I have tried preparing the same in a appe patra with very less oil. So called them sabudana appams. You can have it for your breakfast, or as a snack during fasting periods or on any other days.
Let's look at its preparation.
Ingredients:
Sabudana- 1 cup
Potatoes-4-5
Green chillies-5-6
Coriander leaves-1 cup
Peanut powder-1 cup
Salt as per taste
Sugar--2-3 tsp
Oil as required.
Method:
Soak sabudana in water for 5-6 hours.
Boil potatoes and mash them well.
Now mix soaked sabudana, mashed potatoes, salt, sugar, green chillies, peanut powder and coriander leaves and mix everything very well.
Make small small balls and give a pattie shape as shown in my picture below.
You can make this balls and keep in refrigerator to make appams next day for breakfast or can prepare immediately.
Take a appe patra, put 1 or 2 drops of oil in each hole/emersion and put each pattie in it. Cover and cook for a while. Then turn and let it get cooked well on both sides.
Your sabudana appams or wada with little oil are ready.
Serve them with coconut chutney.
