Mushroom pakoda

Mushroom pakoda- button mushroom bhaji/ pakoda:



Pakoda/ bhaji- this word just makes each and everyone's tongue water up and when its mushrooms then wah!! Its just ' kya baat hein'. Button mushrooms are widely cultivated in India including Goa and thus readily available for relishing them. There are many preparations of button mushrooms, however fried mushrooms tastes wonders. And when it comes to pakodas or bhajiyas, mushrooms hold on top position, at least in my house. Its very simple to prepare like Onion or mirchi pakoda but are very tasty as compared to the latter. These pakodas are children favorite and so can be given to them as a snack in their tiffin box too!!

When onions go out of stock and potatoes are not on the list of some family members diet, mushrooms are best veggies to prepare pakodas. Since they are very quick to cook, its pakodas can be prepared in just no much time. But remember, these pakodas need to be fried immediately as it contains lot of moisture in it, which can make the pakoda batter watery if you marinate them and keep for long hours. Also the iron content in mushrooms make them change their color to black which in turn changes their taste. So friends, for mushrooms, its quick cut and quick fry therapy. No marination for long hours. Let's look at the recipe.

Ingredients:
Button mushrooms-1 pckt
Besan-1 cup
Haldi powder-1 tsp
Red chilli powder-2 tsp
Salt as per taste
Jeera-1 tsp
Coriander seeds crushed-1 tsp
Corn flour-2 tsp
Water as required for preparing pakoda batter
Oil for frying.

Method:
Wash and cut mushrooms into desired pieces.
Prepare the pakoda batter using all above ingredients and required water to have a thick consistency batter.

Heat oil in kadai for frying.
Dip each mushroom piece in batter, coat it with batter and immediately pour into hot oil and fry till done.




Repeat for all mushroom pieces.
Serve hot with rice or tomato sauce as a snack or a child's tiffin pack.

Note: Never put all mushroom pieces in the prepared batter as the moisture content of mushrooms will turn the batter watery after long hours. If you wish to marinate mushroom pieces, you need to fry them immediately. Also long hour marination will turn the mushrooms black in color which changes their final taste too!!
