Sambhar
Sambhar ( a South Indian side dish):
Sambhar is a kind of side dish famous along South India which is served with masala dosa, idli, uttappa, samosa, wada etc. The main dish is actually incomplete without this sambhar side dish. Its prepared using some specific vegetables and it forms a mix vegetable gravy.
Let's see the recipe.
Ingredients:
Toor dal-1 cup
Mix Vegetables like drumsticks, potatoes, carrot, brinjal, beans, raddish etc-1 cup
Sambhar powder-2 tsp
Red chilli powder-2 tsp
Haldi-1 tsp
Mustard seeds-1 tsp
Karipatta leaves-4-5
Oil-2-4 tsp
Coconut-1 cup
Tamarind pulp-2-3 tsp
Jaggery-2 tsp
Chopped onions-1
Chopped tomatoes-1
Salt as required
Water as required.
Method:
Cook toor dal in cooker for 3 whistles.
Cook vegetables separately till all done.
Grind coconut with red chilli powder, haldi and sambhar powder.
In vessel add oil, add chopped onions, sauté well. Then add chopped tomatoes. Saute and then add cooked toor dal from cooker, cooked vegetables, coconut mixture, add required water and keep to cook.
Add jaggery, salt, tamarind pulp and let it cook well.
Then temper your sambhar with mustard seeds and karipatta leaves.
Serve as a side dish with dosa, idli, uttappa, samosa, wada etc.
