Jeera rice with dal tadka
Jeera rice in cooker ( an instant recipe) with dal tadka:
One of the simplest rice recipe without much of the ingredients is jeera rice. The name explains the main ingredient. However, if you prepare rice first and then give tadka of jeera then it's a little bit time consuming process. So why not try in cooker in the busy morning hours if you wish to prepare it for your lunch box.
Also if you wish to carry jeera rice with dal fry- an awesome combination in most areas, then another time saving trick is to just cook your plain dal in cooker the previous night, so that early morning ek tadka Mara toh bas ho Gaya😀
Let's see the recipes quickly.
For instant jeera rice in cooker:
Wash 1 cup of basmati rice twice and soak it in water for just 10 mins aside. Meanwhile cut 2 green chillies to long slits, finely chop some handful of coriander leaves, keep some frozen peas in water, chop some cashewnuts to small pieces.
After 10 mins, drain the rice on sieve. Heat a cooker, add 2 tsp of ghee, add 1 bay leaf, 2 cinnamons and 2 cardamoms. Saute. Add 2 tsp of jeera and saute. Then add green chillies, cashewnuts and frozen green peas. Saute well. Add drained rice and saute well. Then add 1.5 ( 1 and a half) glass of water, required salt and then juice of 1 lemon. Mix well. Close the cooker lid and cook for just 1 whistle.
After 10 mins, open the lid, separate rice granules with spoon or fork. Add chopped coriander leaves and 1 tsp of ghee and mix slowly. Keep it this way half open for another 5-7 mins and you are done.
Pack it in your lunch box and run off😀
For Dal fry:
Wash 1 cup of too Dal and soak in water for 10 mins. Pressure cook for 4 whistles and then pour it in container and keep in refrigerator overnight.
Next morning, heat a pan, add 2 tsp of ghee, 1 tsp jeera, 2 red bedgi chillies, 1 karipatta leaflet, asafotedia a pinch and pour the cooked Dal. Add required water to adjust the consistency. Add salt, 1 tsp of garam masala, little jaggery and let it cook. Once it boils, add a handful of crushed kasoori methi in your palms and pour another 2 tsp of ghee on top and off the flame. ( Here you can add chopped garlic if you wish to). This is a simple Dal fry which can be instantly prepared. Other versions of Dal fry I shall post later in my blog.
