Galmyache sukhe

Galmyache sukhe ( dry shrimp dry masala):

Galmo means dry shrimps often found in Goa. The finest form of shrimps which cannot be cleaned, are to be consumed as is basis. Some consume fresh galmo or some the dried ones.Goan Fisher folks dry the fresh shrimps in hot suns and convert them into dry shrimps which are readily available in Goan markets.

People of Goa consume these dry shrimps or galmo at least once in a week in their diet. Dry fish usually helps Goans when fresh fish isn't available as Goans are fish eaters on abundance.

So today I shall show you the preparation of dry shrimp dry masala or it's called as galmyache sukhe in local Goan language. You must always accompany any shrimps preparation with any sour/citrus fruit like raw mango( Tor), bilimbi fruit(bimla), hogplums(ambado) etc. These sour fruits enhances the flavour of the dish. I have used raw mango in my recipe today.

Let's go to my recipe:

Ingredients and method:

Peel off the skin of raw mango and cut into many small pieces.

Heat a vessel, add 3-4 tbsp of oil and add 2 finely chopped onions. Saute well. Add 2 green chillies finely chopped. Saute nicely. Add a bowl of dried shrimps. Saute nicely. Add a tsp of haldi powder and red chilli powder. Mix well.

Add a bowl of water and let it cook. Add raw mango pieces. Mix, cover and allow to cook till semidry.

Add salt, and a cup of scraped coconut. Mix well and cook till dry.

You are done. Off the flame and serve with Goan rice and solid kadi.
