Green coconut chutney
Green coconut chutney ( for pole, idli, appams):
Chutneys are the side dishes required for most of the breakfast items like dosa, vada, idli, appam, bhonda etc. There are various types of chutneys prepared throughout India and relished on various varieties of dishes.
Goa is famous for it's coastal area with abundant of coconut trees and we Goans always love coconut dishes and when it comes to chutneys we relish coconut chutneys with our dosas or idlis or even chapati/roti.
Coconut chutneys are also prepared in enormous methods. I shall share with you few which I prepare in my kitchen to accompany breakfast items like pole ( Goan dosas), idlis, appams, vadas or rotis.
In this post I shall share with you my green coconut chutney which I usually prepare for dosas or pole or appams.
Ingredients and method:
In a small pan heat a tsp of oil. Add 1 tsp of udid dal, 2 green chillies and 5-6 curry leaves. Saute well and add this ingredients to a cup of scraped coconut. Add 1 tsp of sugar,a cup of coriander leaves, half tsp salt, a small ball of tamarind. Sprinkle few drops of water with your hand and grind in a mixie to a semi thick paste. You may add more water if required, but don't make it watery nor very thin. You may add 2-3 pudina leaves if available with you because pudina enhances the flavour of your chutney. But if it's not available, then it's not a big deal. With pudina leaves I shall posts another type of chutney later.
So you are done with your green coconut chutney now. No tempering is required and is relished at this stage only.
This chutney goes well with Goan dosas (pole), idli and appams. Its just grinded and not tempered so can be easily made and served quickly. So always when you decide to prepare dosas, idli or appams, before putting your hand into preparation of main breakfast, first grind your chutney and keep on the serving table, then start with your breakfast dish preparation.
Happy cooking!!
