No Onion White Rawa Upma

No Onion White Rawa Upma:

Good morning friends!!

Today I felt like sharing with you all a simple Goan style upma recipe or in Goan language we call it as upit for breakfast for those 'no onion religious days'.

Most of the time the women of the house fast on religious days like ekadashi, Mahashivratri, vat poornima, etc. On these days onion is not consumed by anyone in the family. So for these days this is a simple and quick yet delicious breakfast recipe for remaining men and your childrens. Ofcourse you can also try it on lazy sundays!!.

Basically such kind upma is mostly served during hindu ceremonies like marriage, thread ceremonies etc as a best breakfast option. Most of you all must have relished it many times.

I basically prefer this recipe which gets ready within no time and it's also very easy and quick to prepare with very few basic ingredients and more important it tastes very nice compared to the onion upma. I love this no onion upma, you can try out and let me know which tastes better!!

Let's get started...

Ingredients

Rawa-1 cup

Hot water-2 cups

Karipatta leaves(very important)-2 twigs

Green chillies-2-3 finely chopped

Coriander leaves-half cup finely chopped

Cashewnuts-4- cut into medium pieces

Mustard seeds-1 tsp

Udid dal-1 tsp

Coconut scraped-half cup

Ghee-2-4 tablespoons

Oil-2 tablespoons

Salt -1 tsp

Sugar -2 tsp

Warm Milk-2 tablespoons

Method

Heat a kadai, add half of the ghee, roast rawa till aromatic(mostly takes 5mins only) Keep aside in a plate.

Keep water for boiling in seperate vessel.

Heat same kadai, add oil, add udid dal, mustard seeds, after they splutter, add karipatta leaves, green chillies, cashewnuts, Stir well. Add few coriander leaves. Then add roasted rawa and stir well. Add salt, sugar. Stir nicely and pour hot water slowly. Stir and close for 1 min. Open and add milk, stir and close again for few seconds.

Open and add remaining coriander leaves and scraped coconut.  Stir well and add more ghee and mix. Off the flame.

The last and very important step:

Press and spread upma gently all over your kadai with your spatula and pour more ghee on top and sides and spread evenly. This makes your upma look beautiful and ghee sets evenly all over your upma making it soft in your kadai. This step should be always followed for sheera too!!

Serve hot with tea.

Note:

1)You can add frozen green peas and tomatoes if you prefer.

2) The more you add ghee at the last step, the more soft is your upma.
